Invasion Colchester gets going at 10am, with characters starting to appear throughout Lion Walk Shopping Centre (HMV, Game, Vision Express) ACE Comics, Xtreme Gaming and Fun ‘n’ Games…
Head to ACE Comics on Culver Street East to buy your Character Hunt sheet (all proceeds donated to the charities), then you’re all set to seek out the TV and movie characters and cars, get a finder’s stamp from each one, and drop your completed sheet back to ACE Comics by the end of the day. Those that are correctly completed and returned will be entered into a mini prize draw and the winners will be contacted after the event – so make sure you remember to fill in your details!
Born in Manchester, Oliver is a prolific young singer-songwriter based in Essex. With two eps, a single and music video in the bag, he is currently working on his debut album, The Boy Who Fell, due in October. He is gigging anywhere and everywhere he can, and we’re excited to have him opening the live music programme at Invasion Colchester!
We will be selling Prize Draw tickets throughout the day, so make sure you buy some to be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes! All proceeds will be going to the Invasion Colchester charities, and the draw will take place after the event. Winners will be notified via telephone or email. Rhys is a young and very talented singer/ songwriter from Essex who wowed the crowd with an impressive performance last year. He has been gigging around Essex and Suffolk since the age of 10 (!) and his first penned song received radio play both here in the UK and Australia. He recently made it to the regional finals of Open Mic UK!
The Akula Ratnavali Tribal Collective will be performing their impromptu American Tribal Style Bellydances around Colchester, entertaining audiences and collecting a few extra coppers for the Invasion Colchester charity buckets. If you happen to catch them, you’re in for a treat!
An experienced and popular performer on the local circuit, Nina was a big hit at Invasion Colchester 2012, performing a number of familiar tunes acoustically on the main stage. Possessing a beautiful voice (and consistantly cool hair), she is not to be missed in Lion Walk Shopping Centre at 1pm!
Our very special guests, Alan Flyng, Nick Joseph, Ralph Morse and Pam Rose have all appeared in the original Star Wars Trilogy at some point, as well as beign involved in a host of other famous movies and TV shows including Superman I and II, Doctor Who, Clash Of The Titans, Flash Gordon, Blake’s Seven, X-Men: First Class and a number of James Bond films. You can find them at Vision Express in Lion Walk Shopping Centre, so stop by for a photo and to find out just what it’s like working on these amazing productions. If you are aged 12 or under, and want to join the costumers in getting dressed up as your favourite character for the day, you can enter into the Fun ‘n’ Games Fancy Dress Competition. To enter and stand a chance of winning a fabulous prize, make sure you’re in Lion Walk Shopping Centre at 1:30!
You can enjoy a tasty mexican treat during the day as Burrito Boys will be in Lion Walk Shopping Centre, selling their amazing burritos (and donating a percentage to our charities too!).
Tom is a seasoned singer/songwriter from Ipswich who has performed extensively in the area (including slots at the first and second Invasion Colchester!) alongside a whole host of well-known artists. With a number of releases available through iTunes and Amazon under his belt, Tom recently had the honour of supporting Joan Armatrading at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich! You can catch him at 1:45.
As well as the famous characters you can meet around Colchester Town Centre, there will be a number of Star Cars to see. We have the ‘General Lee’ Dodge Charger from ‘The Dukes Of Hazzard’, a Florida Cop Car and Starsky’s infamous ‘Striped Tomato’ Gran Torino from ‘Starsky & Hutch’!
Line up your paintball sights for our superhuman Human Targets! You can buy a handful of paint pellets to try and hit the guys in the firing line. Rumour has it that if a certain monetary target is reached, event organiser Kerrie Williams will be one of those targets!
Make sure you pick up one of Cupcake Maison’s exquisite and delicious cupcakes in Lion Walk Shopping Centre during your day! The ladies at Cupcake Maison have a kitchen in Colchester and Ipswich, producing beautiful, homemade, hand-decorated cakes, and they will be donating a percentage of their profits to the Invasion Colchester charities!
The headline act for the day, Wooden Maiden, are a local rock and metal covers band with a difference – everything is performed acoustically! Boasting beatiful three-part harmonies and a setlist filled with classics from Chuck Berry and The Rolling Stones to Bon Jovi and Kiss (as well as Iron Maiden), the boys are extremely popular wherever they play, and are bound to set the celebratory mood for the finale!
Horror movie make-up artists Clive Double will be in charge of the face-painting duties this year, with a bit of a twist, as we are offering you the chance to get made up into a zombie for the day! Not quite up to his usual level of scaryness, Clive will be transforming willing citizens into the undead for the price of a donation to Invasion Colchester. Look out for Clive at Game.
The entire cast of characters and our outstanding team of volunteers will converge in Lion Walk Shopping Centre for the traditional group photo. This will be your opportunity to see everybody altogether at the end and your last chance to grab a few pics!
